Cathedral of Everyday is a hand-spun and handwoven mohair tapestry created by the women artisans of Frances v.H. Mohair, a studio founded by artist Frances van Hasselt in South Africa's Karoo region. Working with mohair sourced from the van Hasselt family's historic angora goat farm, this textured, abstract tapestry tells a story of origin—of the delicate Karoo ecosystem that sustains the fiber, and of the skilled hands that transform it.
Cathedral of Everyday is part of the Botterblom Collection—named after a street in Prince Albert, a small town in the Karoo where the collective of eleven women artisans who created the collection live. Each tapestry carries with it a layered narration-of Botterblom Street, its people and places, of shared histories, and of the individual stories woven into the work by every artisan's hand.
Hand-loomed and hand-woven Karoo mohair, found wire.
