For Collectible New York 2025, Kombi presents Warp & Weft, a curation of work by nine designers that weaves influences of traditional hand-craftsmanship with contemporary design concepts.
Launching at the fair is a series of limited-edition ‘Lattice’ mirrors designed and produced by New York-based Bower Studios, featuring gradient mirrors by South African design duo, Spectrum. The collaboration is emblematic of Kombi’s dedication to developing vibrant connections between communities of creatives in South Africa and the United States.
Through a group curation of sculptural furniture, lighting and tapestries, by designers including Hanneke Lourens, Xandre Kriel, Mpho Vackier and Frances Van Hasselt, African material languages and methods are reimagined. Weaving, carving, beading, and hand building are presented not only as techniques but as collaborative gestures of storytelling.
