Hanneke Lourens is a South Africa-born, California-based furniture designer making contemporary, sculptural pieces using traditional woodworking techniques. Named in 2024 as one of Wallpaper* Magazine’s rising stars, Hanneke is fascinated by the permanence of wood, the precision it demands, and the creativity it can deliver.
Although she’s lived in California for almost a decade, Hanneke still draws inspiration from her roots–always weaving the spirit and vibrancy of South Africa into her work. So it’s fitting that the debut collection under her namesake brand is a tribute to her homeland. Consisting of five pieces inspired by the abundance of corrugated metal sheets found in the urban landscapes of South Africa, the Corrugated collection reimagines the purpose of this globally-used building material, turning it into considered and cherishable objects by mimicking the flowing curves in white oak and juxtaposing those playful shapes with hard geometric lines.
Each piece is made by hand in Hanneke’s studio set among the Northern Californian Redwoods. Browse the Corrugated Collection or email hello@kombi.nyc to inquire about customization.
